Under 10 Black End of Season Review

Saddened that the 2019/20 season was a lot shorter than what we originally planned, we began with a mixed squad of 10 players and 1 more joining half way through the season. Overall we feel that we couldn’t have asked for anymore from this team than what they have given.

Putting summer holidays to bed, we played some essential pre-season friendlies to blow out any cobwebs from the holiday period and to get back into the swing of things before our opening fixture. Each game having their own ‘ups and downs’ – but isn’t this what friendlies are all about?!

We introduced a set of ‘team pillars’ to our training sessions and our match day ethos as this season our focus was to create a team of ‘team players’, rather than just a ‘team of players’.

Work Hard, Communicate and Think were the 3 pillars, each having its own individual meaning which they all understood and rehearsed on a weekly basis. By adopting these principles we saw a huge improvement to their passing, on and off ball movement, and their overall confidence in all aspects of the game. This is something which has seen them become a strong, organised and very exciting team to watch!

Player rotation has been key for us this season, difficult as it is at times to persuade individuals to play in different positions to which they normal like to play in, as the season evolved it became apparent how important it was giving them these experiences in different areas of the pitch. Sometimes having to play our more natural centre forwards in goal and vice-versa, in a short period of time they proved that they had become a very diverse and effective team.

Spirits have remained high throughout the season. Always having a laugh at training whilst putting in the required amount of effort, has seen them carry this confidence and belief forward into each upcoming fixture. Even with some new faces joining the team from what we finished with last season, they have soon become a team of good friends.

Season highlights for us has been seeing each member of the squad put the ball in the back of the oppositions net at some point in the season. In some cases it was our own net – but we try to forget those! Also having a run of 7 games unbeaten, scoring 26 goals and only conceding 4 has been a huge confidence boost for us Coaches, but more importantly for the players.

Not that we should keep score in Grassroots Football we thought it might be worth mentioning that this season we have won 80% of our games played, and scored 60+ goals in all competitions. Compared to previous seasons statistics this is a massive improvement for us and it just goes to show that we must be doing something right!!

To finish with, we’d like to pay special thanks to our team sponsor, Border Store It who set us off in the right direction at the start of the season providing us with new match day kit. As ever, we are very grateful to our sponsors for their generousity and support.

Also to all the parents, who make each training session and match day possible. Bringing the players and supporting the team week after week (in all weathers) shows your dedication and commitment to this fantastic Club– THANK YOU!
