2019-20 Season Review – TTFC U9’s Black

Seeing the children execute into games all the coaching and just letting them play with continued positivity has provided the best memories…

From XXX & XXXX…

Hi All, Hope you are all keeping safe and well in these difficult times. U9’s Blacks, end of season 1, wow, what can I say from kick starting coaching sessions at the beginning of June with 2-3 players to having 17 players associated to the squad when the season came to an abrupt end. Each and every player has shown clear improvement and demonstrated the FUNdamentals of football over the year.

Our first season was always going to be a tricky one, bringing players together who’d perhaps never played before but we’ve had so many highs it’s really great to watch and be a part of. Seeing the children execute into games all the coaching and just letting them play with continued positivity has provided the best memories.

I’d like to thank all the coaching support from Ben Gough and Matt Webster for helping me when we first set out and over the season to Dale Falkner for assisting with the coaching sessions. To Matt Short who has been an absolute star with coaching and match days, and finally to Ollie Jones who joined us, to take the squad forward into next season a month, or so before C-19 ended the season.

Thanks must also go to the parents for your support getting children to games and continuous positivity. But the biggest thanks must go to the children, your effort and determination has been immense. Football isn’t just about learning how to kick a ball, the lifeskill that come with the game are as important and your teamwork, examples of leadership, positive attitude and sportsmanship has been there for all to see. WELL DONE everyone!

A quick thank-you to our sponsors Discover Great Veg and Bourne Skip Hire for the season your generosity does not get forgotten.

Lastly to thank the committee members who are all volunteers and work tirelessly to enable the children to play the game putting in endless hours behind the season.

Until next season and we meet again, keep up the football a kick about in the garden with family member. Look forward to seeing you all again soon, until then stay safe.”

Ollie as the recently installed coach for the squad had this to add…

“Well for my first year at Thurlby it has certainly been a whirlwind!

Having sat with Phil discussing the possibility of taking on the under 9 blacks I was both excited and unsure what to expect. I remember turning up to watch a game and felt unusually nervous! However I left feeling energised by a selection of supportive parents and the most eager children I’ve met, and I work in the profession!

Training with a number of coaches in a number of locations has surely been turbulent for the children, but their unity as a team and unwavering optimism has not been without notice, and this attitude and solidarity I am sure is the greatest strength of this group of players.

Although our season has been cut short and I’ve only been around for a short tenure, I feel extremely lucky to have been involved this season and the team has come on leaps and bounds, not only technically, but as individuals. It would be unfair to single out individuals as you have all flourished in your own way.

We may not have had many W’s this season but as individuals you are certainly winners.

I wish you all a safe and enjoyable summer, and I look forward to embarking on a full season with you as under 10s.
