Our philosophy on competition

We understand that young players have many interests and commitments, from other sports to various activities in their lives. That’s why we strive to create a supportive and enjoyable environment that helps players stay engaged and develop their skills all the way through to Under-18 level and beyond, as they transition to open-age teams.

To achieve this, we focus on nurturing a strong core team and squad, fostering teamwork, and building a sense of belonging that makes players excited to be part of our football family.

We take pride in our commitment to fairness and sportsmanship. Our club has a strict policy against “poaching” players from other teams. If a team is disbanding or facing challenges and players are seeking a new opportunity, we handle such situations respectfully and professionally, always communicating through the appropriate channels with the club’s secretary.

By following the proper player transfer process, we ensure a positive experience for everyone involved, reflecting the values that make our club so special.

Introduction to playing

We aim to provide children with a safe, enjoyable, and supportive environment to develop their football skills. We adhere to FA guidelines to ensure a healthy balance between play and rest. Children should not play more than the recommended game time in a single day, and a minimum of 48 hours between fixtures is required to allow for proper recovery.

  • U6s and below
At this stage, the focus is on fun and skill-building. Training sessions develop individual abilities, gradually introduce matches, and offer a no-pressure opportunity to explore and enjoy the game.
  • U7s – U10s
As players progress, regular matches are introduced alongside teamwork and basic positional play. Positions are rotated to ensure every child gets varied experiences, and fair playing time is a priority. Effort and improvement are rewarded over winning to foster confidence and long-term enjoyment.
  • U11s upwards
For older players, there is an emphasis on developing a strong team ethic and more position-specific training. A competitive team selection policy is introduced, focusing on rewarding performance, commitment, and effort, while still promoting the joy of the game.

Our approach ensures that players of all ages develop their skills, build confidence, and enjoy a positive football experience that supports both their growth and well-being.

Player game time guidelines

To ensure the well-being and enjoyment of every player, no child will be allowed to play more than one game in a single day. In cases where a competition permits a double-header, there will be a clear limit to how much game time players can participate in, ensuring they have plenty of energy and time to rest and recover. This approach helps keep football fun, safe, and balanced for all our young players.
